Little wonder that Beatrix Potter was inspired
to write Peter Rabbit while on holiday in Dunkeld and Birnam.
While also being readily accessible, this area has the most outstanding
natural beauty and wildlife abounds. Dunkeld is a little historic
Cathedral town situated just north of Perth on the banks of the
River Tay, Birnam was an extension to the south, developed when
the railway was built. There is still a train service to the tiny
Victorian Station, the London to Inverness train included! It
is just over an hour from Edinburgh and Glasgow – there
is also a good bus service.

Laird’s
Inn was built in the ancient Cathedral City of Dunkeld in about
1800. While benefiting from a central location it is found in
a quiet courtyard setting. Laird’s Inn has been recently
renovated to a high standard. The shops and Cathedral are easily
accessible as is the network of the local walks including along
the River Tay and Big Tree Country. Cars can be parked on the
road outside or in the nearby car park, which is free over the
winter months.
